How to make a dog-friendly birthday cake

- Some peanut butter brands contain artificial sweeteners such as xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. Only use peanut butter that is xylitol-free.
- When feeding your dog any new food that is not a part of their usual diet, there is a risk of an upset stomach
- Feed in moderation. Depending on the size of your dog, you may wish to feed a smaller dinner portion after giving them birthday cake to keep your dog at a healthy weight.

You will need:
- Weighing scales
- Measuring jug
- Measurement spoon set
- Medium mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Whisk
- Cake tin (around 20cm in diameter)
- Rubber ended spatula
Ingredients:
- 170g coconut oil (runny)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (non-alcoholic)
- 227g cup honey
- 170g peanut butter (xylitol free)
- 2 whisked free-range eggs
- 100g shredded carrots
- 256g whole wheat flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
How to make a dog-friendly birthday cake
- Mix the coconut oil, vanilla extract, honey, peanut butter and eggs in a mixing bowl until you get a batter consistency
- Add the shredded carrot and mix
- Then mix in the whole wheat flour and baking soda
- Spread the mixture into your cake tin with your rubber based ladle, making sure to smooth the surface
- Place your cake into the oven for 20 minutes at 180°c
- Once cooked, take your cake out of the cake tin and place on a heat-proof surface
- Use your rubber based ladle to smear peanut butter on the top of your cake
- Serve a slice to your pooch and sing them ‘happy birthday'!
